GREAT SEAL
(More Items Below)
The Great Seal was so important that its creation began on day one,
July 4, 1776, when the men who gave us our freedom also set their best
minds — Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson — to the
task of creating a national sign of sovereignty. Finalized six years
later, the two sides of the Great Seal were carefully chosen to
represent this nation to the world and to the future.
Although we see it daily on the one-dollar bill, most of us know very
little about our national symbol. And what we do know is often wrong.
The Great Seal is an original American symbol that belongs to us all,
not to any special group — past or present, covert or overt.
A fundamental document essential to our understanding of history, the
Great Seal is neither obscure nor esoteric. It is America's symbolic
mission statement — the definitive expression of the American Dream —
written in the language of dreams.
When given the attention it deserves, this message from the original
American dreamers can clarify our history and brighten our future. |
